14.12.2007 Casablanca S-4000 / S-4000 Pro : detailed information and new Bogart SE Version 1.1a

The dream team 2008:
Casablanca S-4000 and Bogart SE!

MacroSystem is proud to present the 3rd generation of the best selling standalone
video editing system Casablanca: The S range of editors and the system software “Bogart SE”.

Casablanca S-4000 and S-4000 Pro are the TOP models of the new range and are the successors to the popular Renommee and Solitaire systems (and in turn, their predecessors Prestige and Kron).

The new systems can edit DV and analogue footage, but also HD material in both HDV and AVCHD* formats. The available connectivity is almost in its own league among video editing systems.

When editing HD footage, video can be viewed in full resolution using a suitable monitor screen. This way, you always have perfect control of all editing steps.

Modern processor technology allows the new systems to render at enormous speeds, surpassing their predecessors by far.

The top system S-4000 Pro is particularly suitable for editing HD footage without major rendering times. Additionally, rendering times are further reduced to a minimum in “classic” DV mode.

Exceptionally large hard-drive capacities between 500 and 1000 Gigabytes offer enough storage capacity even for larger projects. Finished films can be output using the available (and for the respective format suitable) connections or burned to DVD and even using the optional Blu-ray burner.
The Casablanca S range gives you an enormously powerful platform for video editing. In order to tap the full potential of the hardware, we have designed the new, future-orientated system software Bogart SE.

Bogart SE is based on the current Smart Edit 7 software, expands on it by adding useful things like archives functionality and a fitting menu structure. The core of this new system software is the widely known Linux operating system. This not only pushes the performance of the hardware, but also provides further connectivity and allows support for many add-on peripherals.

Add-on software products not initially available for Bogart SE shall be updated or replaced if possible at a later stage. Many software add-ons will be subject to improvements and will be expanded with extra options and functions. Of course, next to all the new features, MacroSystem continues putting emphasis on the logical and intuitive user interface – just as Casablanca owners expect from Smart Edit.

The elegant systems are of course “Made in Germany”.
The “Whisper Edit 2” cooling concept provides whisper-like noise reduction – relax your ears while working!

A new Bogart SE version is available: Bogart SE 1.1a. This update is free for all S-4000 and S-4000 Pro users.

Here is an overview of the most important changes. Some smaller details are not necessarily mentioned in this list.

HDV

- Recorded HDV and AVCHD scenes can now be split up automatically afterwards, not just right after recording
- When importing AVCHD data, you can now see a small preview picture next to the scene list (this depends on camera make)
- import speed of AVCHD via USB in 1920x1080i resolution has been drastically increased
- During HDV/AVCHD import/conversion, a preview screen is displayed
- HDV footage recorded back to the camera no longer stutters when encountering critical data
- Exporting the storyboard is no possible in the "MTS" format (h.264 data
stream)
- When exchanging scenes between a DV 4:3 and an HDV project using the clipboard, the aspect ratio of the scene remains intact
- Importing self-made DVDs using Ksebara is now also possible in HDV resolution projects
- Scene information is now also shown in HDV and AVCHD scenes, such as date and time code of the selected scene (only new recordings)

Various

- Playback time code can be set to either "Casablanca" or "Original" (for DV and HDV).
- DVI screen mode 720p (1280x720) has been added
- VGA screen mode 1024x768 has been added (for example for Wacom PL-510)
- The active area for the "Bluebox" effect can now be ranged across the entire screen
- When installing a product and inserting a CD/DVD, the list of software is now updated correctly

Note on Blu-ray burning:
To burn a Blu-ray, you can use the Storyboard export function found in the Project Settings. This exports a complete film in HD to a DVD or Blu-ray (of course only if you a using a Blu-ray burner). You can also use this function to export to a USB2 or Firewire hard drive.
You can choose from two high-definition formats: HDV (MPEG2) or MTS (h.264).
The choice should depend on the playback device you are going to use (Playstation 3, Enterprise MAX, DVC600, PCs with suitable player software etc.).
