Examples for how to link up a typical video editing suite with Casablanca.
There are many possible combinations of devices, so we can only go into detail on two representative cases here.
Filmmakers using digital equipment:
Equipment involved:
- DV camera
- DV recorder
- S-VHS recorder
- VGA monitor (optional)
- Video monitor / TV set
- Casablanca Kron
Connections:
Connect the video monitor to the Kron at socket 2 using the Euro-Scart cable (included).
Connect the VGA monitor used to display screen menus (optional) to the VGA output (socket 14).
The DV recorder is used for play and record. Connect it to socket 13 only, using the DV cable (supplied with Kron).
Connect the S-video input on the S-VHS recorder to the S-video output (socket 6) on the Kron. Connect the S-video output on the S-VHS recorder to the S-video input (socket 5) on the Kron. In the same way, connect the sound in and out sockets (cinch sockets 8 and 10) between the recorder and the Kron.
Under video settings, select the "DV" input, allowing DV footage to be uploaded digitally.
After editing, if the finished film is to be played back onto a DV tape, select "Record to DV" from the "Finish" menu.
If the film is to be recorded on the S-VHS recorder, select "Record to VCR" from the "Finish" menu. Under "System Settings", video output must be set to "YC". This setting is only important if you require analog playback.

Filmmakers using analog equipment:
Devices involved:
- Hi8 camera
- VHS recorder
- TV set
- Casablanca Avio
Connections:
Connect the TV set to the Avio's upper Scart output (socket 6) using the Euro-Scart cable (included).
Connect the VHS recorder to the Avio's lower Scart output (socket 5) using another Euro-Scart cable.
Connect the Hi8 camera to input sockets 2 and 3 on the Avio using an S-VHS cable and a stereo cinch cable (red + white connectors).
If footage is to be uploaded from the camera, set the video settings to the "YC" input.
If the finished video film is to be recorded on the VHS recorder, set the video settings to the "CVBS" video output and the select "Record to VCR" from the "Finish" menu. Now you can make as many copies of your film as you wish on VHS cassettes.

As you can see, connecting Casablanca systems is very easy compared with other editing solutions. If you still have specific questions about connections, please contact our Technical Support service.
