SMART EDIT 5 FAQ

Question: I am using a Casablanca Claro system and have received two installation CDs. Which one should I use to install my Smart Edit 5 software?
Answer: You should use the "boot capable" CD. The CD is labelled as such. Installing Smart Edit5 from the add-on product CD is not possible.

Question: I whish to use DVD Arabesk in single VGA monitor mode but can't see the DVD preview.
Answer: The DVD player preview of Arabesk only supports playback on a TV/video monitor currently.

Question: Which add-on software (effects) is compatible with the HDV mode?
Answer: A list of all HDV compatible add-ons can be found here.

Note on 2-Pass HDV recording in SE5:
The 2-pass HDV recording mode described in the manual is no longer to be found in the current Smart Edit 5 version. After recording HDV footage, there is always an additional rendering process to convert the data from HDV to DV.

Further notes:
When using HDV mode, you can't select "Video Settings" because the HDV only supports the DV input!

Prior to starting an HDV project, you must select an empty project and determine it is as such. Trying to change it to HDV from a standard definition 4:3 or 16:9 project is not possible.

DVD Arabesk 3 currently only supports MPEG2 video DVDs (from the DV data of an HDV project). You can play such DVDs on any standard DVD player.

When loading HDV footage the first time, the system (not the project) switches to that particular HDV mode, i.e. if you load 720p footage, the system will switch to that HDV mode. You can create empty scenes only after that has happened. 720p and 1080i footage can not be mixed in one project.

HDV videos are always in 16:9 format! You will require suitable equipment to watch such a video, watching on a 4:3 screen would result in "squashed" images.

Not all add-on products are suitable for single monitor VGA use (Akaba, Columbus 1, QuadCam, Bluebox World, PIP-Studio, CBPaint).

When using the single monitor VGA mode, it is currently not possible to see the signal while loading footage into the system. It has no effect on the actual recording made however.
