SMART EDIT 6 FAQ Installation notes:
- There are two different Smart Edit 6 CDs. One version is for use with Avio, Prestige and Kron. This version is installed as usual via the "Install Product" button in the System Settings. The second CD is a Start-CD (bootable CD) and is for Claro, Gymnos, Solitaire (PLUS), Renommee (PLUS). This CD must be inserted into the DVD tray and Casablanca must be restarted to install. - When Smart Edit 5 was released, some users mistakenly tried to install it without having a code. This deletes the contents of the drive. The reason was that when you don't enter a code, the drive remains empty but it was also formatted before (because SE 5 was no "updateable" from SE4). To avoid such problems with SE6, we decided to request the code whenever you install SE6, even if you are only updating to version 6.x and a code is already in the system. Other:
- An HDV project can be exported to a DVD or Firewire hard-drive but not re-imported. The exported data can be edited using a suitable PC editing program.
- Effects are always unrendered when the storyboard is loaded back into the system.
- After the import, the last scene may be shortened in some cases.
- If you cancel the installation of Smart Edit 6 after entering a wrong licence code, the system may not boot properly. In such a case, you may need to install the previous Smart Edit version as an update to get the system running again.
- If you import a storyboard with scenes shorter than 2 seconds, these may not be split properly.
- Make sure to use the right mediums whenever you are burning a CD/DVD.
- You can store 19-20 minutes of a DV storyboard on a DVD (4,7 GB single layer DVD).
- In some cases, when importing a DVD title with "Ksebara", sometimes a few wrong frames and a peep sound may be added at the end of the imported scene.
You can fix this by trimming the scene.
- The pattern archives in the Image Pool are not saved when you backup.
- On a Prestige system with an HD Backup drive installed, sometimes a new installation of Smart Edit 6 only covers 3 GB because the DVD burner was not
recognised during the installation. In such a case, you must install the DVD Arabesk software and then reinstall SE6 once more (full installation). This then sets the correct system partition size.
- if you are importing a text file in the titler from a CD or USB stick, make sure to format the line breaks (word-wrap) in your PC's word processor beforehand.
- If you want to import a text from a CD, the CD must be burned in the UDF format.
- In order to use USB sticks, you must install the Card Drive software. Some USB sticks are not supported by Smart Edit 6. Information on using external Firewire hard-drives with Smart Edit 6:
- The Firewire hard-drive must be formatted in VFAT/FAT 32 (most drives already are when you buy them). NTFS and Linux formatted drives are not supported.
- SE6 does not format the drive itself.
- Large FAT32 partition formatting using Windows is not easy. We have tested the following method:
- Go to http://www.heise.de/ct/ftp/ctsi.shtml and download the program h2format.exe
- Go to the drive manager and delete any partitions on the HD (right mouse click)
- Create a new partition (right click) to start the Assistant. Make sure to give the drive a name like X: and IMPORTANT! Do not format the partition when you are asked.
- Instead, open DOS and start the "h2format.exe X:" command. That's it!
- We recommend that you use Firewire hard-drives distributed by MacroSystem. These drives are tested and pre-configured and can be used immediately.
