SMART EDIT 8 - FAQ / references Notes: Two different Smart Edit 8 installation CD exist. A version is intended for the systems Avio, Kron and Prestige. This is installed, as before, in the Install Product menu in System Settings.
The other CD is a start CD (or boot CD) that can be installed on Claro, Gymnos, Solitaire (PLUS) and Renommee (PLUS). These CD's must be inserted into the DVD drive and when the Casablanca is re-started, can then be accessed from the on-screen menu's - so that the software can be installed. With existing Smart Edit 5. 6 or 7 version the Smart Edit 8 software can be installed as updates. Here all the data and projects remain. All existing system 1, Smart Edit 2. 3 or 4 software only a new installation can be accomplished, so that thereby all data on the non removable disk is deleted. With a new installation of Smart Edit 8 on some systems after the new installation the display output is changed over to VGA from video. In this case a VGA monitor must be attached, so that the output can be switched back to video, if required. If Photo Studio 2 imports photos distorted or incorrectly, then this problem can be got around by renewed updates or a complete installation of the Smart Edit 8 software. Photo studio 1 cannot, unfortunately, be used under Smart Edit 8. With the effect "Effect stack" if effects from the "Filter Pack" are used, this can lead (depending upon the effect combination) to incorrect computations. A software fix is in development. If writing fonts (".ttf" files) or graphics (".png") that are to be imported by a CD, then the CD has to be in the UDF file system format. The Time Line opinion, when used in VGA mode, can only be used on a VGA screen starting from a resolution of 1024x768 (or higher).
With Smart Edit 8 on a Claro system in the "Video Mode" it is possible to get a distorted rendition of the scenes. The problem does not arise in the VGA mode. A software fix is in development. With "Preview" in Elastic Dreams you can get an error with Smart Edit 8. The rendered effect, however, is error free. Smart Edit 8 needs a main memory of 256 MB RAM. Smart Edit 8 cannot be operated on T3000 systems that have been upgraded with a main memory of 3GB RAM.
