Installation notes:
- A
system memory (RAM) of 64 MB is required to run SMART EDIT on the Casablanca Avio.
- Many changes have been implemented in SMART EDIT . This means that the differences between it and existing Avio / Kron system software (e.g. 1.8) are so great that when you install the software for the first time (!) you can only install it as a
full installation, during which all of the data on the hard drive are deleted. A warning notice will inform you of this during the installation. If required, you should back up your existing footage on tape before carrying out the installation.
- If you are installing SMART EDIT on a Casablanca system that already has
DVD Arabesk installed, the new and updated Arabesk program that is compatible with SMART EDIT will automatically be installed at the same time. Please never try to manually install any older version of Arabesk that you might already have on a SmartMedia card.
Questions on usage:
How can I add a commentary to a video as a live voice over?
Click on the (empty) commentary track in the Audio Mix menu.
Next, press the red record button in the Audio Mix menu. The film now starts playing from the position selected in the storyboard.
You can now record audio in-synch with the film via the Audio input, which you previously selected in the Audio Record menu.
If the commentary track is already in use, you can also select another track. However, in this case, the recorded sound is not automatically assigned to the audio track but is placed in the samples list. You then need to subsequently insert the sample from this list.
How do I record a song from a CD using the DVD burner?
You will find this function in the Audio Record/Edit menu under “New Sample”. The “CD Audio” item must then be highlighted so that the CD Audio menu opens when you click on "OK". You can now record as many songs/tracks from the inserted audio CD as you like at up to 12 times the speed.
Can I adjust the volume of music tracks that I record from CD?
Yes, though you can only do this afterwards. In the “Special” menu item located in the Audio Record/Edit menu, you can adjust the volume of any recorded audio sample.
I do not see a picture whilst outputting video onto DV tape.
Whilst the video of a finished film is being outputted via the DV interface, you will only see the counter displayed on the TV monitor. Alternatively, you can connect a monitor to the DV recorder so as to keep a visual check on what it is currently recording.
Does the SMART EDIT 2.0 software also include the changes implemented in system software 1.8a?
If you have installed SMART EDIT, it also includes all the functions and routines implemented in version 1.8a, so you do not need to install 1.8a.
