First, create a project with your Casablanca. Then, decide which scenes you would like to use for your DVD menu.
Here, my project is about an Arizona vacation. The scenes I plan to use to create my DVD menu are named "Sunrise" and "Foothills". |
 |
Trim both of the scenes to be the same length: 30 seconds. (This length of time is arbitrary).
To make this tutorial easier to follow, I am going to first export the 2 scenes to an empty project. To do this, highlight the scene, then click "Special". In the Special menu, scroll to the "Clipboard" function and click "Scene -> Clipboard". Repeat this with the 2nd scene. |
 |
Next, go to another project, preferably an empty one. Click "Special" and "Clipboard" and then select "Scene->Project" to import the sceenes from the clipboard.
Then add them both to storyboard: the scene to be used for the main DVD menu background should be added in front of the other scene. |
 |
Now enter the Transitions screen, and select the Picture In Picture function.
Click "Add" to add the effect. Then be sure to set the scene duration (next to the red arrow in the screencap to the left) to 30 seconds.
Set the Shadow to "10". Set the Border to "0": we will not use it here. |
 |
Then select the Position for the Film Icon.
Next, set the size of the box. Though you can select any size here, you want the size of the box to match the sizing options later, so set to one of the following:
(values for NTSC video) Small: 80x50 Medium: 120x80 Large: 160x100 |
 |
Then Create the Picture in Picture effect by clicking the "Create" button.
Once the effect is created, click "Scene" and highlight "Effect + Scenes" and then click OK. |
 |
You will be asked "Do you want the scene to replace the effect and the involved scenes?" This refers to the scenes in the storyboard.
Though this is a useful new function of Smart Edit 3.0, we will not use it here.
Select "No" Return to the Edit screen, and you will now see a new scene in the scene bin named "Picture In Picture". This is the scene that will be used as your DVD menu background. |
 |
Return to the Main Menu, and click "Finish".
Once in the finsh screen, click the "Launch Program" button in the lower right to enter the Arabesk DVD 2.0 program. Once there, click "Add Film" and select your original project (NOT the new one containing your PIP scene work).
Set the Image Quality and Audio mode. |
 |
Be sure to set the chapters before adding the film. They cannot be set after the film is added.
Click "Ok." Then click "OK" again to add the film. This will take an amount of time roughly equal to the length of your project. |
 |
Next, we will create the DVD menu layout. Click "Edit Menu".
The top bar in this menu selects from one of menu options. For this tutorial, we will cover each one.
The first is the Title Text. Enter the desired Text, Font, Font size, styles and Position for the title of your DVD menu. |
 |
The Menu: Control feature lets you decide if the DVD should boot up to the DVD Menu, or the Trailer scene, or the trailer first, then the DVD menu.
For more details on this option, please see the Smart Edit User Manual. For this tutorial, set to "Menu". |
 |
Next you will select the background scene to be used for the DVD menu.
Set Type to "Scene", set the Mode to "Animated" and then click "Select" to choose the scene. |
 |
To choose the scene for the background, select the project that contains the 2 scenes and your newly created Picture In Picture scene.
Then click "OK." |
 |
You can then choose the Picture In Picture scene from the scene bin from the other project.
Once the correct scene is highlighted, click "OK". |
 |
You will now see your background scene, with the film icon over top of it.
At this point you will see multiple film icons: don't worry--that is normal. We will fix this in subsequent steps. |
 |
Next, set the Menu function to "Stamps" to set the size and position of the film icon.
For this tutorial, set to "Medium".
The click "Postion" and place the stamp directly over the PIP scene. |
 |
While still in the "Stamps" mode, set the type to "Background Stamp."
This will make the stamp functional but transparent, revealing the PIP scene underneath. |
 |
Now set the Menu mode to "Film Texts" and type in the name of the Film itself.
Then set the position of the text.
Next set the Menu mode to "Film Text - attributes" to select the font and font styles for the film text. |
 |
Set the Menu mode to "Borders" and set the border to "0". We will not use them here.
Then set the menu mode to "Active Borders" to select the colors that show the film has been highlighted later when accessing the DVD menu with your remote.
Set the Menu mode to "Shadow" and set all of the sliders to "0". |
 |
Once you have set all of the parameters for the menu, click OK to return to the main Arabesk 2.0 menu.
Click "Create" to create your DVD menu. |
 |
To view your work, click on "ALL" in the Info/Play section of the Arabesk 2.0 menu.
This will show your film statistics.
Click play to see your menu. |
 |
You can now watch the motion video in the background and in the film icon stamp. |
